Don't look at me

And then came the rain

he let his eyes fall shut.
his heart a burning hole
cascading thick red smoke -
its haze, choking, blinding,
held him in her arms.
another promise.
another drifting gaze -
he didn’t mind.
all she had to do was
look him in the eye and
all of him was hers.
breathless,
he gasped her name
knowing
when she was through
she wouldn’t remember his.
